This book contains a wide variety of blackwork projects, both big and small. Blackwork has a rich history in needlework, dating back in England to the Sixteenth Century. While none of the pieces are historical reproductions, they do call on this history in many ways.

The two large pieces are samplers. Blackwork sampler is a traditional sampler, showcasing ten different blackwork patterns and techniques. If you are a beginner to blackwork or if you want to learn about the diagonal and oblique patterns and shading in blackwork; this is the piece for you. Blackwork Log Cabin is a different kind of sampler, showcasing different patterns in both light and dark threads.

The small projects in this book cover a wide variety of items. Star in the East is based on a complex patchwork quilt pattern. While the design on the cover is worked on needlepoint canvas, it is also lovely and effective worked on linen or Aida. The blackwork pincushion is a small design, based on traditional blackwork motifs.

In addition, there are several small bonus patterns.
